Women are advocates of the maxim “The pen is mightier than the sword.”  On International Women’s Day in 2022 nearly 2 million mothers and children are fleeing their homeland in Ukraine.  As an observer in another country there is a strong wish to do something which includes giving possessions, donating money, buying an Air BnB and not taking it up, buying Ukrainian product on Etsy and so on.

The additional way is to provide energy and words for your views.  Contemplative nuns feel their energy makes a difference even if they live in silence. In our more secular world supporting women with our words helps us to step out of the feeling of helplessness.

Writing on the internet is the modern pen

Writing a blog is an easy way to give voice to your views and to make a contribution to a better world. International Women’s Day hashtag this year is #breakthebias and I believe that blogging is a way to break any biases of age, wealth, status or experience.

Access to the internet is available in a democratic society and there are no barriers for sharing considered and thoughtful writing.

On my sister site Attract Readers we aim to empower women to make the most of blogs and to

Speak up for their views

Take their rightful place on the internet

Encourage women who need their advice, experience and support

Write once and be seen many many times over.

A blog is a visible notebook and pen on the internet

Blogging includes the best aspects of your website and the best bits of social media. We asked the community to contribute a short article about why you love blogging.  The reasons varied depending on the focus of the blog whether fiction, photography, counselling and trauma advice, business or creative projects. Reasons given includes

Attracting customers

Finding like minded people on the internet

A place for images

Developing ideas through writing longer content

Commenting is a valid way to express your views too

Please read our compilation post about the benefits of blogging. It will take 5  minutes to read. If on International Women’s Day you feel like taking up the pen against the sword please also comment. It supports those who have written and helps to enhance your own voice too.
