International Women’s Day was first established in 1911 and has been celebrated every year since.
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
I am a co-founder of Attract Readers which helps to encourage women to blog. For many years we have celebrated this day and encouraged women to post a blog on the site. We provide support and encouragement to slightly older women to get their voice out on the internet.
A Blog Post to look back on the pandemic year
Here in England children will be going back to school on 8th March so it feels a very appropriate time to reflect on this pandemic year Throughout the year there has been a lot of focus on deaths and the vaccine, but there have also been stories of great generosity and courage. We hope to encourage a thoughtful personal piece which is related to women. It can be inspirational, practical or simply creative. A blog post can help someone get or avoid something, or be something or someone.
A story is a powerful way to connect with a reader, so we are suggesting that the blog post features a story either about the writer or someone else. This is the fifth year we have celebrated International Women’s Day in this way and it has often provided the impetus to collect thoughts that might not otherwise be put into words.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2021 is #choosetochallenge
Thank you … yes it can definitely be a challenge for women to talk about themselves, and our aim was to make it as easy as possible. Thanks so much for your contribution – really appreciated (and enjoyed!).
Personal stories are very powerful in the way that they quickly engage the reader. This is true especially when the story resonates with the reader.
Well done for encouraging women to write – I know that many have fascinating stories.
