Lord Sugar really impressed me with his courtesy to the finalists who are all 16 – 17.  He mentioned more than once that he was privileged to have worked with them.  What a fantastic example of good business practice.  I imagine there are many in the city and in well respected institutions worldwide who would fail to express respect to a person so much younger.

The second aspect that I found inspirational was that he chose the winner “for sheer hard graft”.  Ashleigh, the winner, did not have a clear plan of where the £ 25,000 would go.  Property or accountancy – she couldn’t decide.  I was expecting a critical response to such woolly thinking, but no.  Alan Sugar had seen her made a major contribution each week of the contest and obviously felt confident that her approach would make her successful.

A great lesson for entrepreneurs everywhere.  Markets change, product opportunities come and go but it is your approach – and ability to work – which makes the difference.
