Jean’s marketing business Creative Spark Communications focuses on authentic marketing for small and medium sized businesses. Jean’s skill lies in “getting” the spark of the business, and finding the words to help express it more authentically. She can also bring clarity in terms of audience, SEO, and tone of voice.

Jean’s ebook “Spark into Marketing” which helps you get clear in your own mind about the spark of the business, so it can be marketed confidently and authentically.

Marketing your own business is a great opportunity for self development. Barriers in marketing are often internal barriers about passion, commitment, and being able to see another’s point of view. Success in marketing is a deep wrap-around joy when the right clients who are completely on your wavelength want to work with you.

I am based in Bourne End in Buckinghamshire which is near the River Thames at Marlow and work locally as well as in London. My business nearly 6 years old, and I have had a great time along the journey, and met some fascinating people. Clients usually become friends. I tend to specialise in those who want to make a real difference and need some support and structure as well as the words, and technical and IT people who are wall-to-wall structure and find it difficult to express what their business does in the right tone of voice.

Previous Work: Teacher of English and Drama, College Lecturer to apprentices in the building trades, publicity manager for book publishers getting publicity for authors, sales and marketing of solar electric products internationally.

I love:
Words, reading, thinking, creative writing, personal development, art, good conversations, france, travel, movement, images.. and of course my four great children!

The images on the blog headers were photographs taken by me. Why I chose them:

The sunset which usually appears on this About page of course refers to the biggest spark of them all. Sunsets in particular can be so amazing we forget about everyday troubles and get inspired. Getting inspired about anything helps us to think bigger, to connect and be the best we can be.

I love the contrast on the photograph of water on the front page. The dark, metallic quality on the left and the white light spray on the right. It is a completely genuine photograph taken of a stream in south west France. Inspiration for me is often about finding contrasts and seeing that they are in fact connected.

The image of the cars in the underpass echoes a fascination I have for those US freeway shots with red lights one side and white the other. Taken on the Euston Road in North London, I like the fact that it is slightly blurred and there is the descent into the red and black world one side, while on the other side of the road everything is white light and moving up. Another example of different perceptions of the same thing ..bit of a theme!

The relevance to marketing is I think that our position and our client’s position are really different aspects of the same purpose. We may look different but we are in fact all about the same thing. As business owners our responsiblity is to speak to the client where they are, not where we are, and enjoy and be respectful of the process of development.

The other two images of the field and the distant view and the tree only appear when you do something extraordinary on the blog. So they can be a surprise. (Actually I can’t remember when they appear!)

    Hey Jean,

Where is your “contact me” information? What if I wanted to contact you? I came to your site from a comment you posted on @skellie’s blog. I related to your mention of treasuring every comment you get when you start a blog (mine was started a few months ago and is still in the “prototype” model of the wordpress.com venue, and I’ve had a great thrill from each comment I’ve received – especially when I started getting them from people I didn’t know). So I wanted to contact you or post a comment to share my encouragement.

I watch The Apprentice in the US, but was confused when reading your posts about The Apprentice because they didn’t match the details of the shows I had been watching. Then it dawned on me that perhaps you were in the UK. Fortunately, your about page tells me that. You should add a photo of yourself and some more cool facts about who you are. Inquiring minds want to know.

I completely agree with your observations about inertia. I always say “inertia is a powerful force.” I’ve got that noted as a topic for a future blog post. I’m thinking of relating it to physics and Newton’s Law. Maybe I can include a link to your blog post that mentions inertia.

You never know how these things will go.

P.S. I’m not posting this as part of any assignment or challenge; it’s just good karma. Pass it on. :)

Thanks Denise sooo much for your comment! Really appreciate it and it has spurred me into taking my blog to the next stage. Yes I need to get more info in the about ..but was just giving myself three weeks to get into the habit of posting. I’ll put it top of my priority list! Also need to get my image up on posts..Please blog about inertia and Newton that would be great and we could link. Had a quick look at your blog and you look very interesting!! It’s late now but will come over and see you again.
    Karma rules. Love it.
    Jean
